Odds and Ends

This has been somewhat of a lazy week. Things have gotten done, meals cooked and eaten; clothes washed, dried, folded and put away; dogs fed, watered, and one was even bathed but for some reason I feel like I've not accomplished anything at all. Today I payed a tax bill at the county clerk's office. It was on the third floor of the old courthouse. That was were court was held for as long as I can remember. It still is a stately room but it seemed odd that all the chairs were gone and there were five or six desks around the room. One of the nicest things was that I walked in and was warmly greeted immediately. There was NO line. When I went to get my handicap hang tag renewed in Lexington, I stood in a line that went down a hall, around a corner, and down another hallway. I was in line there for almost an hour. What a difference being in a small town makes. I cashed a check at the bank. No problem there with lines either. A friendly cashier greeted me as I came through the door!

I shopped for fabric at Wal-mart. They will lose their fabric department in a couple of months. I guess everyone will have to drive out of town for fabric now. Someone with some money to spare and time to devote, could open a fabric store and do very well in Leitchfield. I wish it were me! Well, maybe not unless I had really good people working for me. I'd love to shop for fabric to put in a store.

I stopped by the Tractor Supply Store and bought myself some muck-out boots. With everything beginning to thaw, waterproof boots will certainly come in handy. The boots are actually really comfortable. I bought another pair at Wal-mart (on sale, cheap) but when I got them home and tried them on they were not comfortable. Maybe putting a cushion in them would have worked and it certainly would have been cheaper, but when I tried the new boots on I was hooked. They fit, were easy to get on and OFF, and were very, very comfortable. I'll see if the old ones would work for Mama. I know she will insist on being out some and Daddy's old boots do fit her but maybe she'd like these because they come up higher. They might fit Elizabeth, we could try some gel-pads in them. We'll see. I really liked the store and plan to do some more shopping there soon.

We had the most awful dinner tonight and I can say that because I cooked it. Mama wanted fried hash browns, I cooked some turkey sausage links, and she warmed up some left over onion rings. Ugh! No color, no vegetables but the onion rings and I don't think they even count. We are having steak tomorrow night (already thawed and ready) so I'll bake some potatoes, heat up the green beans and make a salad. That sounds good doesn't it?

I've talked to my brother, John David, and his wife, Marie, about staying with Mama when I come home a couple of days for two appointments (plus one for John). They thought it would be fine. I hope it works for John David to be here. It would make Mama really happy to have him here for more than 10-15 minutes.

I've talked to MS off and on all day. Her apartment manager told her she owed some back rent. She couldn't understand how since the apartment takes it out of her checking account monthly. The new manager tried to explain that it was from June, at a time when because of her working, she owed more than she actually payed. She felt she shouldn't have to pay it. She told me he didn't give her a good reason. I finally had her give me his name and number and called him myself. I was very friendly...Of course we will pay this but since I'm the POA for my mother I'm going to need some written documentation for my files....He tell me that MS has the paperwork, that he gave it to her....He explains the situation very well and says he's tried two or three different times to explain it to MS....I told him we would pay a third of it each month for three months since he gave her that option...I asked him if the correct amount was being taken out now....He replied that it was....I thanked him and told him I would mail the check to MS and she would bring it to him. Then I called MS back....She was not at all happy with the fact that she does owe the money.....I'm not sure why she was so upset since it won't be her that is paying for it anyway.....I wrote the check and it will be in the mail tomorrow.

I wanted to talk to Carol but I missed her. I'll call her tomorrow. I'd like to drive to Whittle's Fabric store with her the next time she goes. It's the closest fabric store. Elizabethtown's Hancock Fabrics would be next and then I would guess Bowling Green would have a couple. I'm looking for some coordinating fabric for some I bought for John's "den" here at Mama's.
