Today will be a busy day.....

It will be busy because Mama has a doctor's appointment at 12:15 and a hearing aid appointment at 2:00. Mama also wants us (me) to bathe Sam. I need to finish my laundry and begin packing. Yesterday Mama told me she didn't know she had a doctor's appointment or the hearing appointment. I got a little frustrated and told her she had heard about it because that was why she was planning to take some money out of her money market account. She still didn't remember it.

Last night she asked me if she had a doctor's appoinment anytime soon because she has a growth inside her nose. She has talked about a sore place in her nose before.

The hearing aide, hopefully, will help all of us. I can't yell anymore because it's causing me to be hoarse all the time. She can't understand MS who talks to fast and repeats things like repeating them will help Mama hear them.. It's very frustrating not to be able to communicate with her and she gets angry when she can't hear. Sometimes I think she thinks we are talking about her and whispering behind her back when we are talking at a normal level.

The angry looks are more persistant. I'll be ready to go to Lexington tomorrow. I need a rest and some time to unwind. I know the anger is more frustration with the situation but at times it's hard to bear.

I'll update this later today.......

Mama's doctor's appointment went well. He started her on the Exelon patch (hoping to improve her memory and cognition). She actually showed her anger in front of him and he said he felt she was in the beginning stages of Alzheimers and that at this time it was moving pretty fast. It could slow down or continue on the same course. There is no way to predict what will happen or when. He (and the nurse) said that when the "time came" that he would help us with what ever we wanted to do. I felt he was talking about a nursing home. I plan to keep her at home as long as possible. I know she will be happier at home as long as she knows us and knows where she is. Even after that we may be able to continue. I want her to be at home as long as it is safe for her to be there. Dr. Lee is sending her to an ENT for the growth in her nose.

The hearing appointment went well also. The hearing test showed that she has lost 50% of the hearing in her right ear. The left ear has no nerve and therefore no hearing ability. It was removed because of a tumor on the auditory nerve (about 15 years ago). The choice of type of hearing aid was hard for Mama to make. We went over the details two or three times. She could use one that fit like her last one and which had two microphones or one that fit into her ear canal which had one microphone. She would be able to ear equally well with either one but would still only be able to hear about 85% of what was said. That is the best that technology can do for her now.

She chose the one with two microphones. We can pick it up in about two weeks. We did leave without making a color choice. The one she was was bright spring green...she said she certainly didn't want that color. We need to go back up there next week to make a color choice.

I came home on Wednesday morning. Sam would have gladly come with me but he will be happier there.

My aggrivating husband said I should tell you how happy I am to be home with my wonderful, adoring husband. Haha! He's sitting right here so he's talking to me while I try to type.

I saw Elizabeth and Case on Thursday. We went to Hobby Lobby to get the supplies for a project then out to lunch at Fazoli's. Then back to Elizabeth's, Case down for a nap, and finished the project. Then I came home and napped.

I plan to have lunch with Jeanie Dunn today and then go to my eye appointment for a field of vision test. Then I don't know what I'll do. It is good to be home!
