This morning I got up early. Sam was very insistent. The first time I thought he just needed to go out but when he came right back in and wanted to go out again just a few minutes later and was even more insistent I got up again. I turned garage porch light on and even without my glasses I could see a grocery bag and something almost as big as the bag on the back porch. I went out and found that the squirrel we found frozen in the driveway earlier this week, had been taken out of the garbage can and chewed on quite extensively. Then I found the big garbage can had been turned over and one bag chewed opened and the mess scattered around. I picked it all up and replaced it in the garbage can and then got some more garbage bags and picked up the squirrel mess and put it back in the garbage can. Not a nice thing to have to do so early in the morning (or any other time)!
Now I understood why Sam was so upset! Whatever it was, he knew it didn't belong here, and he wanted it gone. Once I cleaned up the mess, he came in and calmed right down. I'm wondering if it was a raccoon, an opossum or something else. Unless I catch it in the act, we may never know.
I couldn't find the whistle I call Sam with. I looked all over the place, in drawers, in the cabinets, even in the dishwasher. I could not find it. While I was looking in the family room I noticed that my yarn and been rearranged and my circular bamboo needles were laying on the table instead of being the basket. Mama! When I asked her if she'd seen the whistle, she opened her hand and gave it to me. I didn't ask about the needles since that was obvious. No matter what I'm working on or with things get rearranged a little. Sometimes it's more trouble that others to get them back in order so I can continue working but I can't fuss at her. It's her home and if she wants to look through things, that is her right. Just a little frustrating though.
