Yesterday was the day I took Sam to get his shots and be neutered. I was told he would be ready to come home around 3 pm. They said they would call. By 3:30 I was getting a little anxious. Soon after the Vet's office called and said they apologized but due to an emergency they had not been able to get to Sam that day. She asked if they could keep him overnight and they would do his surgery first thing this morning. I asked her how he was doing and she said he was just fine. She said he was a very good dog and was one of the only ones not barking all the time. She said that of course they wouldn't charge for his board and apologized again.
While she was telling me all this I was trying to decide which would be easier on Sam, for him to stay the night or for me to come get him and take him back this morning. Since he was so nervous getting into the car yesterday (due to being dropped out in the country I presume) I decided to let him stay. She said they would take good care of him and they would call as soon as he was ready to come home.
I asked her if they would see if they could give me an estimate of his age and check for worms since we didn't know how old he was and if he'd ever been to a vet. She that would be no problem.
I've spent a little of my money on food this week but I think there is still more than enough for Sam's visit to the Vet. If not, I'll charge it and pay it back when John gets here with my money next weekend.
It was very quiet here last night. No Sam lying down like a bag of bones, no Sam following us around, no Sam wanting to go hunting for ground hogs, no Sam dancing when he came inside, no Sam lying down while we ate supper, no Sam staying with Mama while she watched TV, no Sam sleeping in my room (in the doorway so he was with me but could see Mama's room). And, no Sam jumping up trying to catch the snowflakes that fell off and on all day yesterday.
We'll certainly be glad to have him back!
