On Monday I took Mama to Physical Therapy for an evaluation. The main problem seems to be her balance. I explained that it had been a problem since the time they took out the auditory nerve (tumor). We also explained about each of her recent falls and about the possiblity of her having hyperparathyroidism.
Mama will see Dr. Lee this morning to see if there is fluid on her ears and then the PT Place will call to set up a PT schedule. Probably only twice a week since that's all medicare will pay for. The PT, Marv, said even that would help. She said part of Mama's problem was that she HAD fallen and was now fearful that she would fall again. She said they will work on the balance problem and will work to get her confidence back while walking. She told Mama they might be able to get rid of the cane. Mama liked that.
Mama's been very grouchy and touchy today. She's been up more and fixed lunch and made a lemon icebox pie. She told me that she needed to do more and to get out more if she was going to get better. I just wish she wouldn't try to do it all in one day.
We went to Whittle's Fabric Store (about 5 miles past Brownsville) and she seemed to really enjoy that trip. I think we may try to go to an antique store, visit the shop at the corner of 259 and Mill, go to Handyman's (a store with all kinds of building supplies), and any other place she might not have been recently or maybe ever.
Marie came and spent the night last night. She seemed to be doing quite well. She's had a lot of trouble with her memory and speech lately. It sounds like a stroke but doesn't have all the signs. It was worse a couple of weeks ago so it may be improving, what ever it was.
Yesterday was Cy's 13th birthday. I can't believe he's that old. The saddest thing was that he was sick with the virus that has been going around. First came Avery, then Elizabeth and Matt, then Griffin and Tim, then Amy and now Cy. I talked to Cy yesterday morning and he said he was looking for some crackers to eat. He sounded weak but said he was better.
I talked to Tim last night (second night I've tried to reach Amy - ballet last night) and he said he thought he was as 100% better as he was going to be. We talked about granny and my missing being there. I really enjoyed the conversation. He's one of the good guys!
