Thursday....

Yesterday was a very interesting day. Marie had called on Wednesday and asked if she could come and spend the night. She had slipped in the bathroom and fell into the tub and was sore and just wanted some company.

When we got up on Thursday, I reminded Mama that she had an appointment to have her ears checked at 10:45. She said it will take forever but I thought it wouldn't take that long. So, we all had breakfast and then everyone was busy doing their hair and make-up (except me). Marie was looking through the picture albums and asked Mama if she could borrow some of them to be copied. Mama told her she could but that she better get them back!

At 10:30 we left the house, leaving Marie there, and went to Dr. Lee's office. We parked in the back because it is more level and Mama has trouble getting in and out even at the drop off location. Mama said she thought there was ice on the ground but actually it was salt. She wasn't confused. It really did look like crushed ice.

In the office I signed her in and we sat down. Eventually everyone started talking about when their appointment times were. 10:00, 10:15, 10:30....no one was being seen on time. I asked at the desk if there was a problem and she said they were trying to catch up with the snow cancellations and that it wasn't always this bad. The people in the waiting room all had different reactions. One said she thought he was the best doctor in the county and she would wait any length of time. Another said she drove from Owensboro because this was the doctor her insurance assigned to her (a one hour trip one way). The third said she had waited longer but was getting tired and hungry. We were called after all the people mentioned above, one hour past our appointment time! When Dr. Lee came in he checked Mama's ears and said, "I'll be right back" and left the room. He returned with what looked like an huge syringe, a emisis pan, and a water proof pad. He covered Mama's right shoulder with the pad and tucked in into the neck of her sweatshirt. Then he told mama to hold the pan tightly against her face. Then he filled the syringe with warm water and squirted it into her ear. He did this about four time and then got a pair of very skinny tweezers and took out a couple of pieces of dried ear wax. It took a while to get every thing out and then he used the syringe again. Once he was satisfied he checked again and said she did have fluid on her ear and she would need to take an antibiotic. While he was at it he cleaned out the other ear even though she can't hear out of it. It took almost as long as the other. He then decided to give her another prescription. This one for dizziness that might be caused by the fluid behind her ear drum.

Finally we left and went to pick up Sam. He was very happy to see me and ready to go out on the leash. However, he wasn't too sure about getting into the car. How do you teach a 50 lb. dog to get into a car. I can't just pick him up and put him in there. I guess we'll get some treats and lure him in until he gets used to it.

They told me he is about 2 years old and one of the best dogs they've ever seen. He was happy in the crate overnight, he didn't bark incessantly, and he was friendly as well as beautiful. He is a Irish Setter mix (don't know what with - mostly Irish) and now has all his shots and a tag to prove it.

We had a quiet afternoon. Mama and I both took a nap. Then I found that Marie had left her phone here.

Around 5:00 Shea called and invited us to supper again. Mama accepted but told her she was going to get tired of us. She said to be there in 30 minutes.

Marie came back to get her phone. Told Mama she was having trouble with her stomach and went to the bathroom and threw up. She kept coughing and gagging. Finally she came out and said she'd gone to get her stomach medication and found she didn't have the $2.10 that it cost. We gave her $2.25. We told her we didn't mean to rush her but that we were on our way out and had to be there in about five minutes. She left and we followed soon after.

Now the awkward part of the day. When we got to Caleb and Shea's, Marie's car was parked in the driveway. We went in and she was talking to Caleb and trying to get Raiden to let her pick her up. Caleb pulled out a chair and told her to sit down and he'd get Raiden to head in that direction. Instead of going to Marie she headed straight for her Daddy and gave him a big hug. I didn't know what to say or do. Marie laughed and said she didn't know this was where we were going. I asked JaLyn how many books were were going to read and she told me two. We went to her room and she picked them out..We didn't say anymore about it and Caleb did ask him Mom to stay for dinner. I think her feelings were hurt because she said, "No, I need to get on home". She left right away.

The meal was excellent, grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, carrots, green beans and biscuits. We had a great time visiting with them and after dinner I read the two books to JaLyn and then took Mama home.

Sam was waiting at the door since he heard the car pull into the garage. I let him out and he did his business and came right back in. We were tired (mostly from waiting in the Dr's office) and Mama and I both went to bed. Sam was tired too. He slept all night and was up, happy, ready to eat, and ready to go out to play.

I hope today is a little less eventful. I need to pick up Mama's Rx and we are going to Caneyville to take a picture to Dr. Bob McClure that Mama wants his wife to have.
