What a mess to wake up to..
Last night Mama and I went to bed at about the same time. I was very stuffed up from either an allergy or the beginnings of a cold so I took a benedryl and then read and worked cross-word puzzles until I couldn't hold the pen. I noticed that Mama's light was on but that's not unusual since she reads a lot at night.
When I woke this morning her light was still on. I checked her room. Her bedside lamp was on and her book was open on the bed. It looked like she'd just gone downstairs. Sam was ready to go out so I let him out the front door and saw Mama was asleep on the couch as I walked to the kitchen to get his food out. It's not unusual for Mama to decide to sleep on the couch especially if she's hearing things or her back hurts.
When I got to the kitchen I noticed the exhaust fan was running at top speed. There was a pan on the stove filled with soapy water and the floor was sticky. I thought she must have cooked some apples and burned them.
I got out some cleaner and the mop and cleaned the floor. About the time I got Sam's food ready, Mama walked into the kitchen and asked me if there was a fan on somewhere. She could hear it and it was really bothering her. I told her the stove fan was on but that I'd just turned it off. She told me she had tried to make some chocolate sauce for ice cream but that she'd gone to the basement and forgotten about it. She said she wasn't through sleeping yet and wandered back to the living room.
Soom she was back up again telling me that fan was running and she couldn't find it anywhere. She said she wanted it turned off. The only fan I could hear was the furnace fan and she said okay that she would go lay down. Within minutes she was up again complaining about the fan. I told her that her ears were probably ringing. She didn't think so...she wanted that fan turned off. She opened the basement door and started to go down. I asked her what she needed down there . She looked puzzled and said she'd go later.
Right now she's in the kitchen washing the few cups and glasses I'd put into the sink with hot water and dish detergent. Now I can hear her working on the pan. That will take a lot of work. There is a crust about a quarter of an inch thick in the bottom of that pan!
Somewhere in all of the above she told me that Sam had chewed up a pair of her good navy shoes. I need to check on that. If he did, we'll need to keep our shoes up for a while. Yesterday afternoon, he pulled the Dr. Scholl foot pads out of a very old pair of my shoes and had chewed on the sole and was starting on the back of the shoe. I fussed at him, took it away, and put him outside. We had given him a pork bone (bought in the dog dept. at Wal=mart) earlier. I hope that didn't start a chewing problem since he's not had one before then. I need to find the shoes she said he chewed up.
I may add more later. For now, we've had enough excitement for one day!
