Sunday was a scary day....

Sunday afternoon after Elizabeth, Case and John left. Mama took a nap. At around 12:15 she woke and walked to the family room. I was on the phone with Carol but got off immediately and asked her if she was hungry. She shook her head yes. I fixed her potato soup, a roll, and some cola. She sat down and picked up her spoon, turned it upside down and put it in her mouth with no soup in it. She kept staring outside and finally picked up her glass. Instead of drinking, she set the glass down in the soup. I took the glass and poured the cola into a clean glass. Next she put her arm down on the bowl and almost turned it over. She started saying things that didn't make sense and was slurring her words. I called John David and he and Marie came quickly since they were already on their way. We decided she needed to go to the hospital so John called 911 and gave them the details and asked them not to use the sirens.

They got here quickly, evaluated Mama, loaded her into the van, and had an IV started before they left our driveway. The hospital took it very seriously and she was given medication and a CT scan. Thankfully there was no bleeding. After conferring with a specialist in Louisville, the ER doctor said they didn't think it was a stroke, possibly a TIA, but maybe only one of the medications she was taking. They took her off the medication, did a chest x-ray, and admitted her to the hospital. We got to the ER about 12:30 and I left for Lexington at 7:30 after they got her into a room. I got home about 9:15.

Monday morning John had a colonoscopy and thankfully there were no problems at all. Five years until the next one. We went out to lunch. He was starved. Then we went and bought a laptop for me because the computer here had been very iffy. It went down before and Marie's brother fixed it but it was doing the same things as before and I told John I couldn't be here without some form of communication. We took the laptop to Elizabeth and she set it up for me. I took John home and went to Amy's to get a book Griffin recommended to me. I'll start it tonight. Then I went and picked up the computer. John and I went out to dinner.

Tuesday morning I had a bone scan and an appointment with Dr. Humphries (endocrinologist). I was back in Leitchfield by noon and got to the hospital just in time to take Mama home. Jeremiah and Marie were there too. We thought we might need Jeremiah to get Mama into the house but she managed quite well.

Marie went and picked up all the Rx's and a broiled chicken for dinner. With a baked sweet potato and some peas we had a very good dinner. Mama said it was so much better than hospital food.

Mama insisted in sleeping in her own bed and made it up the steps with no problems.

This morning she took a bath and was exhausted after it but said she felt really good when she woke. She ate breakfast and has been reading the paper and napping ever since.

I cut out part of a quilt pattern and don't plan to do anything else today except cook and wash clothes.

Tomorrow I'm getting me hair cut.

There's much more to tell but that will have to wait for the next post.
