The last few days have been very, very quiet. Mama has slept most of the day and been up most of the night. It's been like living here alone.
Finally yesterday she got up at a reasonable time and spent a few hours up during the morning. By noon she was done and she slept until almost 7 pm. I fixed dinner, we ate, and she went back to sleep on the couch. At dinner she looked the best she has for a while. She looked alert, and had better color.
Yesterday Beverly came to clean. She tried to engage Mama in conversation and it was a lot like the last time Elizabeth tried to tell her Granny that they were getting ready to leave....she stared off into space and ignored what was being said to her. We know she could hear us because she had her hearing aide in and she even told us she could hear us when we pressed her for an answer. She still didn't answer our questions.
She worries because she is wobbly on her feet and when she is reminded that has been going on for over 15 years, she looks at you like she doesn't understand what you are talking about. She grumbles about taking her medicine but she does take it so that is good.
Back to dinner....she ate two White Castle cheese burgers....she said she was tired of chicken and didn't want anything else I offered her. At least she ate that. During the afternoon I had baked a Razzle Berry Pie for her. She says it tastes the most like her mother's blackberry cobbler than anything else she's eaten. I fixed her a bowl of one slice of pie and two small scoops of ice cream. She decided she wanted it heated so she got up and put most of it into a smaller bowl, crumbling up the pie into the ice cream. Then she put the rest, still in the bigger bowl, into the microwave to heat it. She couldn't figure out how to use it. She would set it for only one or two seconds. She was getting frustrated but finally found the one minute button. Once that was heated, she put the small bowl into the microwave and ate the heated one. Next she cut herself another piece of pie. She had it all over herself, the oven, the counter, and the floor. She had tried to use the pot holders to clean it up and she put them both into the dish water. She said she was going to clean it up later. I asked her if she needed help and she said she wanted some more pie. I asked her where the smaller bowl was and she didn't seem to know what I was talking about. Once we found it, she ate it happily and went to the living room to watch TV. I cleaned up the mess and put everything away.
She doesn't want any help but obviously needs it. I've cleaned up a number of messes lately and she has made some unusual things. She decided to make chocolate sauce the other night and thankfully didn't burn it. However, the next day I couldn't find the chocolate coating I'd been using on the 'cake bites'. The bowl was in the sink and was clean but there was no sign of the coating. I think she might have used it in her chocolate sauce. I also think she probably ruined the first batch because it's not made to be used that way. I don't know what she did with it and I may never find out!
