My hands.......

I have had so much trouble with my hands lately. First of all, I pulled a tendon in my right hand by pulling weeds too long. I guess that's why, it could also be because they were so hard to pull up. Anyway, I waited ten days before seeing a doctor and then spent two weeks with my first two fingers taped together. It's still very sore and there is still some swelling. It seems to hurt in the joint more now rather in the joint and up my hand. Hopefully it will continue to heal and the swelling will go down. The arthritis in my hand (which the doctor said was pretty bad) probably isn't helping any thing. Every time I have an x-ray for ANYTHING, they tell me about my arthritis. It's everywhere but I take Aleve for that and so far it is enough. I dread the day when it isn't.

My left hand is giving me fits right now. The pinky finger and half of the ring finger are numb and tingly - just like they've been asleep and are waking up. I've read that compressing the ulnar nerve can cause that, and that leaning on your elbow doesn't help because right next to your crazy bone is where the nerve lies. Since this chair is too short for the table, I've been resting my arms on the edge of the table and I'm hoping that is what is causing the problem. I plan to find a pillow or two to sit on and see if it helps. The worst thing is that my hand feels weak. I'm having trouble opening jars, scrubbing pans, and picking things up with that hand.

I have an appointment for when I get home (after Elizabeth's hair appointment) to see Dr. Riley again. Hopefully if things haven't settled down by then he can give me some answers and some suggestions.

Last night I walked into the kitchen and you'll never guess what I saw. Granny had a chair pulled over between the stove and sink, and she was getting ready to climb up and hang the clock. She looked so sheepish. I told her we'd better wait for Jeremiah to do that and that she didn't need to be climbing up into chairs because she could fall and break her neck. She replied, "Well, maybe I should just break my neck....I can't do anything I want to do anymore!"

I think she knew she shouldn't be doing it to begin with or she wouldn't have been so defensive when caught. I put the chair away and she sat down and ate a donut. The clock is still on the table so at least I know she wasn't climbing into chairs after I went to bed.

Today she plans to vote. She said she wants to vote for a couple of people she knows. We'll go after lunch and then I plan to take her to get her hearing aid volume increased. It's done with a computer and only takes a few minutes. Her hearing aid needs to be checked and maybe the tube changed. She really likes being able to hear again. She will hear even better with the volume up some. When the volume is as high as it can go, she will have about 85% in that ear. That's way better than 50%.
