We have a new grandson!
I spent the night on Tuesday evening so I could be there to take care of Case when they left for the hospital. They were both very excited when they left (Matt was trying not to show it but it was there.) Sally (Matt's Mom) also spent the night and followed them before too long.
Case woke up happy and we had a great morning. He loves his blocks and magnetic letters. He also played a lot with a toy wrecker. It makes very believable sounds and will go either backward or forward.
I didn't have a computer available so I was missing out on all the updates. John tried to keep me updated. At 1:15 Kara came to relieve me so I could go to the hospital. Case was asleep but I was sure he was happy to see Kara. They are good friends!
At the hospital they had just given Elizabeth an epidural. She was beginning to feel the effects and after about 20 minutes she was looking a lot more relaxed and relieved. The nurse checked her and said she was 9 cm. and fully effaced. They called the doctor and we were sent to the waiting room. Amy and John were having a great time texting Matt to see how things were going.
Ryan joined us in the waiting room and we were able to hear about a few options that might come available to him. I hope something really good opens up soon.
Finally.....we heard that he was HERE! We were all excited and wanted to see him asap. Matt kept saying to wait a few more minutes. It seemed like forever but we finally were able to troop in and see him.
Rhett is beautiful. I know you aren't supposed to say a boy is beautiful but he is. He looks so much like Case did when he was born.
He has a headful of black hair. He has Elizabeth's feet. He has the cutest squeek before he cries. We all got a chance to hold him. Amy took a picture of Ryan holding him and sent it to Virginia saying Ryan was ready for them to have a baby too. Amy was almost giddy about the new baby. I loved watching her with Rhett. She and Elizabeth once again said the same thing and the same time. It's that "twin thing" they have.
That evening Kara brought Case to see his big brother. His Marshall cousins, Cy, Griffin, and Avery came to visit and to hold Rhett. I heard that Avery was more interested in playing with Case but I know she was very excited about getting another cousin. I went home after eating with John and was asleep before Sally got home with Case. The next morning she said he fell asleep on the way home and she changed him and read him two books and he fell right to sleep. I really appreciated her doing that.
Thursday morning John came over, helped me put the car seat in the car, and went with us to see Rhett. Case was very excited. He was very patient with his grandparents who had a hard time getting everything hooked together. He enjoyed seeing Rhett but was way more excited about playing with the puzzle Rhett had "given to him". When it came time to leave Sally was going to lunch with Matt and we were taking Case home. We all walked out together and then Matt gave Case to John. I felt like we were stealing a child. He cried and reached for his Daddy. It was terribly sad! Thankfully, he was fine by the time we got to the next elevator and he got to push another button. He took a good nap and woke up very happy. He played all afternoon and when I talked to Elizabeth I told her I had decided not to bring him back that afternoon by myself. She agreed that it would be better so we stayed home and played. That evening we read a LOT of books and he went to sleep after saying "bed" and pointing to the spot beside him. I lay down with him for just a few minutes and he fell right to sleep.
Later that night he woke up crying. I held and rocked him for a few minutes and he went right back to sleep. He woke up this morning happy and ready to play.
Once he heard a door close (the bathroom door) and came running saying, "Mom, Mom". He was a very disappointed little boy when he saw it wasn't her.
It was only about 10 minuted later though that he was able to see them come through the door. He heard the door and came running again.....and there they were. He wanted to see Rhett so they put the carrier down and he was so sweet with the new baby. They took a lot of pictures and even some video,
A little later Matt asked Case if he wanted to go shopping with him. He had to convince Case to go with him. After Case indicating that he wanted to hold Rhett and then changing his mind very quickly. (He actually brushed himself off as if to say, "Boy, that was a mistake".) He happily went with his Dad.
Elizabeth looked tired and needed to nurse Rhett. I decided it was time for me to give the kids back their house and let them settle in in peace.
I'm looking forward to seeing and holding him again!
