Monday, March 1, 2010....

Today has been a busy day. Up at 6:00, fed Sam, got dressed, Beverly came to clean, Mama got up around 9:30, I went to the bank, went to the grocery, filled my car's gas tank, fixed lunch for Mama, John David and I, and.... you get the idea.

I tried to think how to get the checkbook back from Mama and get some of the money into the bank. I finally decided to write her a note while we were eating breakfast. I couldn't talk to her because Beverly was vacuuming and she didn't have her hearing aid in. I just told her I planned to go to the bank and put $100.00 of the Williams Co. check into the bank and use the rest for groceries. She nodded after reading the note over and over to herself. She read it at least four times and maybe five. Before I left I wrote a check for Beverly and gave it to Mama to give to her. She moved that check three times before I left. I was afraid Beverly would never get it but apparently she did.

When I got to the bank, I gave them the check and deposit slip. Then asked for some help in understanding the bank statements. I guess I flustered the gentleman because he and I both forgot about my getting cash back. I remembered as I pulled into Wal-Mart and had to go back and get it. He apologized but I assured him it was my fault for interrupting him during what he was doing. All ended well. I went on to the grocery and filled my gas tank on the way home.

After I put the groceries away John David arrived. He stayed and ate lunch. I can't remember what we were talking about but Mama said she wished I wouldn't remind her about forgetting things....unless she wanted me to. She actually smiled at her own joke.

After cleaning up the dishes I decided to lay down a while before going through some more papers. I fell asleep and when I woke it was almost 4:30. I guess I was tired.

After dinner, Mama and I agreed that we needed to get some more sleep and we both went up to bed. I came back down after she fell asleep so I could write a little.

Before she went to bed, she came in and asked me when she would go to PT. I told her tomorrow afternoon. She asked what time and I told her 2:30. She nodded her head yes and said that was fine. Then she looked puzzled and said, "That lady (PT) said she wanted him (Dr. Lee) to look at the water behind my ears but he didn't do that." I reminded her again that he was to look for fluid behind her eardrum. She just looked like I wasn't making sense. I told her that was why she was taking the antibiotic - to get rid of the fluid. She didn't look satisfied but went on to bed anyway. This about the third time in as many days we've had this conversation. She keeps asking about the water behind her ears and says she doesn't HAVE any water behind her ears. Between her not wearing her hearing aid and her not turning it on when she is wearing it, it makes for difficult conversations.

Sam seems to not be feeling well. He came in after lunch and lay down on the family room floor. He slept all afternoon and didn't really want to even be petted. His nose is hot and he acts like everything is just too much trouble. I wonder if the medication they gave him for parasites was too strong. If he's not feeling well in the morning, I'll call the vet's office and ask if it could make him respond this way.

I called the lady who has done Mama's taxes for the past many years. Mama had told me that she had been told that if she didn't sell anything this year she would not need to file taxes. I just wanted to double check. I'd hate to be the cause of trouble with the IRS. No need to file. Mama remembered correctly. It's things like her remembering that which makes her not remembering about fluid behind her eardrum so confusing.

I think that's about all for today.

  1. Sam woke up feeling fine this morning. I'm not sure what happened but I hope it doesn't happen again. He's been out and about and is now sitting out in front of the front porch looking like he owns the place.

  2. Okay, I just noticed the time...it's actually 6:40 not 4:39.
