Sunday morning Vonda called and said that Aunt Ruth had passed away earlier that morning. Later I found out that she had regained consciousness and was talking with the nurses. She told them she was going home "today". She was correct. The nurses said she died peacefully and wasn't in any pain.
I called John but he'd already left for church. Then I tried Amy's home and cell phones but there was no answer. Then, against my wishes, I called Elizabeth. I knew she would be upset and she was. I tried Amy again and still got the answering machine. Amy called me back and she had already talked to Elizabeth. I called Ryan and got his answering machine. I left a message there because we had talked about how sick Aunt Ruth was the day before. Then I told Mama.
I called John David and asked him to call his boys.
Mama and I went to Carol's for lunch. Right before we walked out the door MS called and I had to tell her too.
I had been sewing before we left for Carol's and I had lost track of time. I was trying to get us out of the house so we wouldn't be late. Well, that was an effort in futility. Mama told me that one of us was going to have to change and since she'd always done things her way, it probably wouldn't be her. So, I backed off and let her do it her way. I called Carol and told her we would be a little late. We finally got out of the house and Mama began picking up things in the garage. My umbrella, which had finally dried was her main thing. She wanted to fold it up but couldn't figure out how. She finally gave it to me and I put it away.
On the way to Carol's I could tell she was angry with me. I decided to act like nothing had happened and she forgot all about it. (She gets angry with me a lot lately. I can't do much of anything right.) I think three weeks is about our limit when she is as frustrated as she's been. Maybe having MS here for a week will help.
Carol had a great lunch. Breaded, baked chicken, green salad, carrot salad, broccoli, and rolls. Scott was there and we all enjoyed our lunch. Later he showed me his laptop and it's like mine only with white inside. He said he couldn't see the letters on the black one.
Someone came to the door with some fliers. Mama and Carol both knew her. Carol was standing in the doorway of the outside door but holding open the inside door with her foot. Mama was trying to get out the door and kept pushing on it. Carol lost her footing and fell into the porch. Thankfully she landed on her bottom on the dog bed. It was an air mattress and broke her fall very nicely. Scott helped her up and she was fine except for a small scratch on her right wrist. Mama and I left so she could rest. I don't think Mama even realized she had pushed Carol till she fell.
John David had called looking for us at Carol's. He was here and on his way somewhere else and said he'd stop by on his way back.
Mama was not able to nap and was up and into everything. That went on until John, Marie, and Jeremiah got here. Mama asked Jeremiah about MS's car. She showed him the quoted cost and he said to tell her he'd fix it when she got home. Mama was relieved. When they left she did finally lie down for a while.
Off and on all day she complained about a high squealing noise. She couldn't find it but she wanted it to stop. I think her ears are ringing.
By about four o'clock I was stuffed up and miserable again. Maybe this allergy is triggered by stress. Mama started digging again and I decided to get a shower and go to bed. She said that sounded like it would help. I went on to bed and was finally able to relax. Later she brought me some Vick's Salve. She had me put some under my nose and it did help me breathe better. Mama went to bed too.
Soon she came into my room and asked if I could hear the choir. I told her I couldn't. She said it was much nicer that the "kill your mother-in-law" song she'd been hearing. She said she recognized the lead singer and that he was good but kept singing one part way too long. She went back to bed. I fell asleep but was awakened by her yelling, "Who's here? I want to know who's here". She had turned on all the lights downstairs and was very upset. I told her there was no one here but us. She said she had heard Ed Pendleton as clear as day. I told her she must have dreamed it because there wasn't anyone else here. She said that she HAD been having a lot of dreams lately. She came back upstairs and went into her room but almost immediately came into mine and tried to turn up the volume on the intercom in my room. She said she could hear it in her room, but not in mine. I didn't even ask what she was hearing. I just told her to go back to bed and that I'd stay up a while. She told me not to, that she would read for a while. She decided to sleep on the couch. She watched TV till she fell asleep. The TV was on all night. She's still asleep with the TV on. I've taken the garbage out to the end of the road and I'm getting ready to start the laundry.
We don't have any appointments this week. The only thing will be Aunt Ruth's funeral.
