While I was in Lexington, I got to see a bunch of great ball games. I got to see Cy pitch an entire ball game and catch two fly balls from the pitcher's mound. Griffin's games were more relaxing. He's improved a lot from last year and is hitting with more confidence. Avery's T-ball games are still so much fun. Watching these little ones just makes me smile. Good week for baseball.
I enjoyed watching Case watch baseball. He set up to bat when the pitcher was practicing. He knows when it's his cousin's who are playing and seems to be aware of exactly what is going on in the game. Despite him getting a couple of hard knocks at Cy's game (he fell on the bleachers twice) he seemed to really enjoy the games. Elizabeth didn't enjoy that one very much. However, John did take Gunnar for a walk which gave her a break. Poor Gunnar, I don't think he even knows he ruined his chances of going to games for a while. He was just having fun but a puppy and a toddler were too much for a pregnant lady.
Amy and I went to see Avery's class performance. They presented a Patriotic Music Program. It was much better than you'd expect to see from first grade children. They did a really good job. Every one of them had on a red t-shirt and leis in red, white, and blue. The program lasted an hour and despite a few of them getting antsy from being up there for so long, it was enjoyable for the audience and performers alike. An hour of standing would be hard for even a group of older children....I was impressed.
Amy had taken the day off to get some things done at home and some shopping done. It was good for her to have a chance to catch up a little.
Speaking of Amy....when John told her about Sam's wandering and how we were going to have to find him a new home, volunteered to ask Tim about them taking him. She said they had been talking about getting another dog and that she had fallen in love with Sam the first time she saw him. Tim agreed to a week long trial to see how it would work so.......Sam came to Lexington with me and seemed very happy to do so. As soon as I started packing the car, he put his head down and just lay there looking sad. He wouldn't eat or play. However, when I got his leash and offered for him to get into the car, he was happy and ready to go. He had a great trip. He slept once we were on the interstate. We stopped at Bardstown and let him run for a while. He must have watered every place another dog had been for the past 10 years. I got each of us a hamburger and he ended up eating both of them. After a long drink of water, he slept again until we got home. Boy, was Mattie ever surprised when we walked in. She and Sam had a romp in the back yard while I brought in some things.
That evening we took him to the ball park. He got a lot of compliments on his "beauty" and his behavior was great. He watered everything there as well but was calm other than trying to get to a new spot to mark. We left him with Amy and went on home.
That week I hoped for the best. He worried me when they found a couple of spots where he had dug. However, Avery covered the spots with leaves and the next day they found that the leaves were still there and there were no new spots. Avery said a squirrel had dug there. By the end of the week, he'd passed the test. He'd killed a ground hog there as well. Sam has a new home, with people who love him and where he'll get plenty of attention. School will be out after Thursday and then the kids will be home with him most days. He's got it made. I'm happy for him and them.
My appointment with Dr. Riley went well. He sent me to a physical therapist who specializes in hand injuries. I now have two spiffy black splint straps and a bunch of exercises to do. She wanted to make a splint for me to sleep in to rest my hand. At $165, I said that I would have to pass. I came home and folded a wash cloth into the correct size and shape then pulled a low cut sport sock over my hand while holding the wash cloth. My hand is held in the correct position and it didn't cost me a cent. My left had was a little more worrisome. He said I'd damaged a nerve. He put me in a Heelbo splint to protect my elbow. It was very tight and because I don't have lymph nodes in that arm (removed during breast cancer surgery) I decided that I'd have to alter the splint to be able to use it. I trimmed the tight elastic bands from each end. It still stays put and is quite comfortable now. It doesn't cut off my circulation and despite looking a little messy, works like it should.
My blood work for Dr. Hood showed that my RBC levels were stable and that I still needed to take the Crestor. He added Niacin. The blood work for Dr. Humphries must have looked better because she raised my Synthroid from 88 to 112. I'm hoping for better days as a result.
Sam is back in Leitchfield. He kept digging holes! Finally he tore up a pillow in the house when they were gone for a long time. He's doing fine here. I put a tag on him and I've had a couple of calls to come pick him up. I finally took the tag off when Mattie and John got here. He's staying closer to home and even brought in a ground hog he'd killed.
